Bloody Mary Cocktail

The Bloody Mary is a different kind of cocktail. Bloody Mary cocktail is used in combination with spices, tomato juice, and vodka to create a burst of flavor for a drink.

Bloody Mary History
Many people have their own theories about where the Bloody Mary derived from, in addition there are local legends. Once there was a bar named the Bucket of Blood located in Chicago. It is often indicated that the Bloody Mary was the bar’s signature cocktail in the 1920‘s. Then there are other legends that say perhaps Bloody Mary was termed after the motion picture South Pacific. The most common theory is that it came from Mary, Queen of Scots.

In all reality though, the Bloody Mary was probably created by George Jessel the producer. He was known to be the one doing the Smirnoff Vodka advertising when Smirnoff Vodka was introduced in the United States. The evidence that this man was responsible for the Bloody Mary cocktail was indicated in the New York Tribune naming him and the recipe for the drink. Then there is an American by the name of Fernand Petiot that bartended in Paris. He is the one known to have added the Worcestershire, pepper, and Tobasco to the Bloody Mary cocktail. It was suggested that the spicy cocktail be called Bloody Mary from the previously mentioned club, the Bucket of Blood, because it was like a drink that would have been derived from such a rowdy bar.

Traditional Bloody Mary Cocktail Recipe

2 oz. vodka
3 oz. tomato juice
1/2 oz. lemon juice
3 dashes Worcestershire sauce
2 drops Tabasco sauce
hint of salt
hint of black pepper

You can combine all the ingredients, and mix with a shaker that is filled with ice. Then use a strainer and serve in a high ball glass filled with ice. The Bloody Mary drink is garnished with celery or a wedge of lemon. Keep in mind that the better the quality of ingredients you choose to put in your Bloody Mary, the better the drink will become.

Different Ways To Make The Bloody Mary
As with any cocktail, the Bloody Mary can be made in variations of the original recipe. Different people and bartenders will make them according to their own preference and spins. You can now utilize the various flavored vodkas available to enhance the flavor. Instead of plain tomato juice, you can use the various types of vegetable juices on the market. Use lemon juice instead of lime, leave out the Tobasco or add horseradish for a bigger kick. You can even have this drink minus the alcohol content.

The Bloody Mary is a cocktail that never goes out of style, and its consistent popularity is an attribute of this fact. You can be real creative with the way that you make your own Bloody Mary.
